Maniwaki Mystery Death
About
In the year 1929, Detective Dalpe, once a devout Catholic and now a despondent widower, is sent to the quiet town of Maniwaki to investigate the mysterious death of a young woman poisoned with strychnine. As he questions his faith and competence, he begins to wonder if this remote assignment is a reflection of his superiors’ doubts in his abilities.
Upon arriving in Maniwaki and checking into his accommodations, Dalpe is captivated by the charismatic and beautiful proprietor, a woman of his own age. Unexpectedly, their connection starts to rekindle his spirit.
In the close-knit community of Maniwaki, where secrets are rarely kept, Dalpe finds himself suspecting the victim’s sister in the perplexing death. As he delves deeper into the case, he discovers love and renewed hope in the arms of the innkeeper, bringing him back to life.
Although his investigation doesn’t yield the outcome he had hoped for, Dalpe finds solace and a brighter future in his blossoming relationship. Three years later, in 1932, he returns to Maniwaki as a Detective Sergeant, now in a long-term relationship with the innkeeper, ready to face a new challenge and a promising future.
